If you are considering or are about ready to participate in a mediaiton, it may be helpful to get into the mediation mindset. Getting into the proper state of mind can help you open up the possiblity of creating new and innovative solutions to issues in dispute. To get into the mediation mindset, you might want to ask yourself the following questions: Are you ready to hear and consider new information? Are you ready on both a physical and psychological level to negotiate? Are you able to have a limited amount of emotional attachment to the other party? Are you open to the possibility of developing a new, ongoing relationship? Do you have a strong desire to settle the dispute? Is there some degree of external pressure to settle the dispute (i.e. time concerns, improved benefits by settling, unpredictable outcomes, cost of litigation, etc.)? |
